Witness for the prosecution
I watched this play in Rangashankara theatre on Saturday evening with a friend. It is based on a murder mystery written by Agatha Christie. It was enacted well by the artists- a mix of Indians and foreigners.
Long dialogues become difficult to bear with especially when you are sitting through a play that spans 2 hours. The break between the scenes in the play were a kind of interruptions where you could see some figures moving around the stage in the dark trying to fill glasses of water, moving the wooden walls while we were trying hard to recognize these figures and murmured to each other, ‘hey that guy played the part of inspector?’. My friend was of the opinion that the stage was not used properly.
The accent used in the play was that used by British and it was amazing to see that none of the characters failed to recall their long dialogues.
It was directed by Bhaskar and the perfection in the play was endorsed by the physical presence of Mr. M. S. Sathyu in the theatre.
The performance of all the artists was par excellence.
The last time I watched a play was in Chowdiah Memorial Hall- Woman in Black. There, the break between the scenes brought with it a curtain that covered the stage and all the in-between scenes activities went on behind it. So, at the end of play all one remembered were only the scenes.
