The Afghan - Frederick Forsyth

Frederick Forsyth is a master at writing suspense novels. The Afghan, to me, doesn’t seem to be one of them. Though he has written the novel with all the intricate details on The Taliban, The Al-Qaida, Pakistan and Afghanistan, still one is left to wonder if it is worth a read.

In this part of the world (South East Asia) where reading on Al-Qaida and Taliban in newspapers everyday is commonplace, this novel will evoke a little interest in the reader.

I found the novel interesting only after one hundred and fifty pages. It was difficult to digest why Mike Martin would be sent on a ship along with one more die-hard Al-Qaida member. They could have used Mike Martin elsewhere.
Frederick has also committed the mistake at one place by calling India as a Middle-east country.

If you have been reading on Afghanistan, Taliban and Al-Qaida, then you can probably skip this novel though the second half is an interesting read.

All in all, you will be left wanting for more.
